The challenge is over so how did I do? Out of the seven books I listed I have completed three. The third I finished today.

Book One.
MyCollapse )

So three out of seven. Is that a good result? I used to read on the bus to work but now I walk as I love closer so need to fit more reading time in to my life.

I have enjoyed this challenge and would like to do it again.

Sooo, the challenge is nearly over again. What does anyone think about either extending it or starting again and ending just before Christmas?

I've done this so far:

1) Hunger Games - the second in the trilogy, Catching Fire
I LOVED it! I devoured it on holiday.

2) Hunger Games - the third in the trilogy, when it comes out in August
I have it in my hand and am starting it this weekend!

3) Three Investigators book that I bought on a whim from eBay because I loved those books as a child

4) Holy Fools - Joanne Harris - a reread
I enjoyed it, but it's not my favourite

5) All the zines that princesslia84 sends me
Really enjoyed them while on holiday

6) Two craft books that I bought off Amazon recently

7) A Secret Madness - Elaine Bass
I have started this but not finished.

8) Two Caravans - Marina Lewycka - I love A Short History Of Tractors In Ukranian
9) The Third Life of Grange Copeland - Alice Walker
10) A Long Long Way - Sebastian Barry

Am I the only one that's finishing books? Or just the only one posting in here about them? Anyway, finished two more of the books on my list which gives me a grand total of 3!

Book #11/Book #2 for 28books14weeks: 13 June, 2010 to 22 June, 2010

The Spook's Mistake ~ Joseph Delaney

It's been a while since I last read any of this series, April 2009 actually. It wasn't hard to get back into the story, although I couldn't remember at first what had happened in the previous book. I think that shows that although these books could stand-alone at a push, you really do need to have read all of the previous books in order to really get the most from them.

Book #12/Book #3 for 28books14weeks: 22 June, 2010 to 27 June, 2010

The Girls ~ Lori Lansen

This book had been on my List of Books To Get for some time, ever since I saw someone reading it at work but I hadn't got round to borrowing it from the library till now. I was rather dubious about it from the start which is one reason why it took me so long to get it. It's basically the story of a pair of conjoined twins who happen to be the oldest surviving craniopagus twins in the world.

Spoiler alert - if you've not read this book and you want to, there are some spoilers in the following review.

First book finished! Go me! I actually finished it a few days ago but I had a load of other books that I'd finished prior to this one which needed reviewing first. Anyway!

Book #10/Book #1 for 28books14weeks: 3 June, 2010 to 13 June, 2010

Little Bird ~ Camilla Way

I was recommended this book by hobbitblue quite a while ago but it was never available at the library till now. The basic plot is of a small child who is stolen from her pram at the age of 3 and then rediscovered ten years later. She has never been taught how to talk but with some intensive training, she quickly gains speech and finally makes her way out into the wide world. It's mostly about how she adapts and learns to live again.

Spoiler alert - if you've not read this book and you want to, there are some spoilers in the following review.

1. The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova.

2. Ghostwriter by Robert Harris.

3. The Tales of Beedle the Bard by JK Rowling.

4. By Any Means by Charlie Boorman.

5. Reckless Road: Guns and Roses and The Making of Appetite of Destruction by Marc Canter.

6. Wild Blue by Stephen Ambrose.

7. Lucky Man by Michael J. Fox.

This is also the first community I have joined, so please be gentle :oP

A big yay for reviving this community!

I'm linking all the books to their page on Goodreads, which is my usual book-counting/motivator device.

Am I the first person to post my reading list? Blimey. Better make this a good one then.

*walks in, manages not to trip over own feet* Um, hello. This is my third attempt at this challenge and I'm hoping that it will be third time lucky! My main reading challenge this year is get through my ever increasing List of Books That I Have Got And Which I Really Really Need To Get Around To Reading One Of These Days. Although, as it's getting scarily close to 40 titles, I'd be happy to just make a dent in it.

Ideally, I'd like to read 14 books - I'd like to think I could manage a book a week - but I think I might aim for 10 to start off with and see how that goes.

Without further ado, here is my list:
1) Hello Cruel World: 101 Alternatives to Suicide for Teens, Freaks and Other Outlaws ~ Kate Bornstein

2) Yiddish With Dick And Jane ~ Ellis Weiner and Barbara Davilman

3) e2 ~ Matt Beaumont

4) Little Bird by Camilla Way

5) The Girls by Lori Lansens

6) The Spook's Mistake by Joseph Delany

7) The Accidental Sorcerer by K.E. Mills

8-10) and three Doctor Who novels Ghosts of India, The Krillitane Storm and Wishing Well

I have a fiction journal on Dreamwidth where I review the books I read as well as on LibraryThing so feel free to add me on either of those : ) < /shameless plug>

Summer Reading Challenge

Well, well. Does anyone feel like reviving this community?

If we start the challenge on Friday 4th June, it'll end on Friday 10th September, which I think is a nice bracket over the summer.

To participate in the challenge you must have a list of books/zines/comics (fuck it, it's all reading material innit) but you do NOT have to have 28 books. Five or ten or fourteen or thirty-six will all qualify you for the challenge.

Any questions/discussion ideas?

If anyone wants to join in, just post your list before or on Friday :)

And link your friends!
